15 Years On – Remembering Michael
June 25th, 2009 is a day that most of us will never forget. I for one, dread the day coming around each year, remembering only too vividly receiving the news of Michael’s death before the media and calling around everyone here at MJWN giving them the dreadful news.
Beforehand, we were all making plans to meet up for the “This Is It” shows in London and all very excited about what Michael was planning to do. What songs would he include? What new moves would we see? And, when would we see him arrive in the UK? In a flash…all that was gone!
I don’t know about you, but even now, fifteen years on, I still struggle to listen to certain songs and watch certain footage of Michael. He was such a big part of all our lives and although I thought I would be over it by now…I’m not and doubt I will ever be.
When people realise it still affects me they tell me to concentrate on the all the good things he did, all the amazing songs he released and the long list of records that he broke throughout his career. They feel I should celebrate his life and I do, but it’s not the same and never will be the same without him in the background.
Whatever you’re doing today and at whatever point you are in the greiving process, Michael’s life IS worth celebrating. There has never been an entertainment artist like him and probably never will be again. Not only should we celebrate his achievements, but also be happy that we were lucky enough to share this world with such a wonderful human being.
