MJ Nominated For 10 Tony Awards
‘MJ’, the Michael Jackson musical that has taken Broadway by storm has been nominated for 10 Tony Awards, only three months since it opened at the Neil Simon Theater. It’s even been nominated for the most prestigious ‘Best Musical’ award. The nominated categories are:
- Best Musical
- Best Performance by a Leading Actor in a Musical (Myles Frost)
- Best Book of a Musical (Lynn Nottage)
- Best Scenic Design of a Musical (Derek McLane and Peter Nigrini)
- Best Costume Design of a Musical (Paul Tazewell)
- Best Lighting Design of a Musical (Natasha Katz)
- Best Sound Design of a Musical (Gareth Owen)
- Best Direction of a Musical (Christopher Wheeldon)
- Best Choreography (Christopher Wheeldon)
- Best Orchestrations (Jason Michael Webb and David Holcenberg)
The smash musical is centered around the making of Michael’s 1992 Dangerous World Tour. Christopher Wheeldon directs and choreographs the show and is a previous Tony Award winner. Lynn Nottage, who is a two-time Pulitzer Prize winner, wrote the show. And while the show has the audience on their feet as it showcases Michael’s best songs and signature dance moves, it also offers a look at his creative mind that catapulted him to legendary status.
The winners for this years Tony Awards will be announced live at the awards ceremony on June 12th.
