Estate Wants DeMann’s Suit Dismissed
December 4, 2012
On Tuesday, Michael’s Estate urged a California judge to throw out a suit from Michael’s former manager Freddy DeMann. He is demanding commissions from the posthumous “repackaging” of Michael’s work since his untimely death in 2009. However the Estate is saying the suit is barred, because DeMann never filed a creditor’s claim against the Estate.
The estate’s attorney Jeryll Cohen said DeMann was receiving royalties at the time of Michael’s death in 2009 under his 1978 management agreement and should have filed a creditor’s claim “to preserve [his] right to continue to receive those royalties.”
