Going Back To Indiana
Michael’s mother and his children will be visiting Gary on August 29th to attend a series of events to celebrate what would have been Michael’s 54th birthday. They will attend a series of events dubbed ‘Going’ Back To Indiana: Can You Feel It?’ for fans from August 29th to September 1st; all will be open to the public.
Here are some of the scheduled events:-
Aug. 29: Michael’s birthday
3 p.m: Press conference and meet and greet with Katherine and the kids at Majestic Star Casino, 1 Buffington Harbor Dr. (219) 977-7777.
8 p.m: Candlelight vigil outside the family’s Gary home at 2300 Jackson St.
9 p.m: After party at Majestic Star Casino’s Lakeshore Lounge. The party includes open-mic tribute performances from those who won the chance for a 10-minute slot. Attendees must be 21.
Aug. 30th
7:10 p.m: Gary South Shore Railcats join in the Jackson tribute weekend with Michael’s kids throwing out the first pitch. Tickets start at $7 and are available at railcatsbaseball.com.
Mayor Karen Freeman-Wilson hosts a dinner with the Gary Chamber of Commerce honoring Katherine Jackson. Gary Chamber of Commerce president Chuck Hughes said a key to the city isn’t on the agenda. “She probably has that already, but there will be heartfelt tributes to her.” Registration begins at 5:30 p.m. Tickets are in short supply, but still available for $50. Sept. 1
7:30 p.m.: Mark Spencer’s West Side Theatre Guild presents the namesake “Goin’ Back to Indiana: Can You Feel It,” tribute concert. Also on the bill is the Gratitude Project, set to perform their original composition “Dear Michael.” Tickets are $35 for general admission, and $50 VIP seating.
