Hometown Michael Mania
Starting on Friday, there will be a four day extravaganza in the City of Gary, in honour of Michael’s birthday on August 29th.
The ‘Legend’s Weekend,’ will take place in front of 2300 Jackson Street, and at the Leonard Douglas Stadium at Roosevelt High School, where there will be multiple performances from the International Afro Centric Circus in the grounds of the school.
There will be continuous musical entertainment on stages set up near Michael’s boyhood home, as well as nightly concerts presented at Leonard Douglas Stadium at Roosevelt High School.
Lila Williams, president of event presenters LGR Partners Inc., of Addison, Ill. Said, “We’re doing this with the support of the Jackson family. When you’re doing a festival of this magnitude, having the support of the family is imperative.”
The entertainment, speaker presentations and other activities along Jackson Street will be free, while there will be a fee for the special concerts and the circus at Leonard Douglas Stadium.
Among entertainers will be Chicago’s own Chi-Lights; Keith Jackson, a cousin of Michael, and his Triple Dose Band; Bobby Solomon; Ed Hollis; Veronica Lopez; Jamiah on Fire and Red Machine; Click Clark, Justin Black; and others.
Ms.Williams said there is expected to be a major announcement this week about other big name entertainers, who may be joining the event.
As of press time, Williams said Michael’s parents, Joe and Katherine Jackson, and his children are expected to take part in various activities over the weekend. No details or times were given about their appearances.
