Jacket Sell For $1.8 Million
At Julien’s Auction House in Beverley Hills yesterday, the calf leather red and black jacket worn by Michael in his ‘Thriller’ video was sold for $1.8 million to Milton Verret, a Texan gold trader. The jacket also has Michael’s signature on the sleeve and was given by him to Michael Bush and Dennis Tomkin who made most of his clothes.
“It is one of the most important pieces of rock’n’roll memorabilia in history,” Mr Verret told Reuters. Mr Verret’s memorabilia collection already includes another one of Michael’s jackets, as well as guitars used and signed by rock group U2.
He plans to use his latest acquisition to raise money for children’s hospitals worldwide.
Two jackets were made for the fourteen minute video for ‘Thriller’ and they were designed by Deborah Landis, the wife of the ‘Thriller ‘director John Landis. The other jacket remains the property of the Jackson estate.
