‘Ben’ Composer Honoured

Don Black has written many famous songs during his career, such as ‘Diamonds Are Forever’ and ‘Born Free’ and has also contributed to numerous film soundtracks. For Michael fans, the most important song he wrote was ‘Ben,’ which was Michael’s first big solo hit when he was still just a child.

On October 6th Don will be honoured with the BMI Icon title. Some of the former recipients were the Bee Gees, James Brown and Willie Nelson.

BMI collects royalties on behalf of writers and music publishers and its annual awards ceremony will take place at the Dorchester Hotel in London on October 5th, this year. The award is given to writers who have had ”a unique and indelible influence on generations of music makers.’
