Czechs Oppose Statue
June 29, 2010
Thousands of Czech citizens are opposing plans by a group of Michael’s fans to erect a six foot plinth with a bronze bust of Michael in Letna Park, in Prague, the site of the first concert of the ‘History’ world tour in 1996.
City authorities have already approved the plan, but more than two thousand people have joined a Facebook protest claiming it makes no sense to put the statue in the park because Michael had no connection with the Czech Republic.
A Prague art gallery has proposed putting a statue by a Czech contemporary artist there instead.
