Michael Marks Black History Month
October 13, 2009
A Michael Jackson tribute marked the beginning of Merton’s Black History Month celebrations.
Young people danced to some of Jackson’s greatest hits at the South Mitcham Community Centre last week in memory of his contribution to pop music and contemporary culture.
The event was arranged and presented by Accede Community Projects – a Mitcham based organisation which caters for educational needs of the community through workshops and support groups.
Organiser, Howard French, said: “Having Michael Jackson as a theme was a great way to try and get the whole community to attend. His music doesn’t just represent black culture but transcends all backgrounds and appeals to everyone.”
