A Village In The Ukraine
July 3, 2009
Villagers from Oktyabrskoye, located in the Zaporizhia region in the Ukraine’s southeast, have approached Oleg Kislitsyn, a deputy in the regional parliament, to ask him to support their request to re-name their village after Michael. The village is in a depressed area, where all the factories have closed.
They want to build a house/museum there and collect Michael’s records with a view to encouraging tourism. “There are many fans of Michael Jackson there. They want to immortalise him,” said Mr Kislitsyn, adding that he was in favour of the proposal.
The village’s municipal Council will consider the plan in August.
