Cultural Significance
May 14, 2008
Yet more recognition will be given to Michael’s iconic album ‘Thriller’ as it joins a list of twenty-five recorded items to be preserved in the Library of Congress, Washington DC, because of their cultural significance.
The library names twenty-five recordings each year to be added to their archives as “culturally, historically or aesthetically pleasing”.
This year’s other nominees range from pop to jazz, from musicals to political speeches, from cultural music to the 1977 record of ‘earth sounds’ sent into space on the spacecraft Voyager.
The registry archive now holds two hundred and fifty recorded pieces.
