Another Review Of ‘Thriller 25′

buffalonews.com have reviewed Michael’s 25th Anniversary Edition of ‘Thriller’ which was released last week, and in spite of seemingly trying very hard to dislike it, they have called it a “masterpiece” saying Michael gave “the performance of his life.”

“Thriller” reaches the quarter-century mark with all of its charms intact. It is simply a pop music masterpiece, and for all its Top 40 veneer and clear eye for accessibility, it’s also a brazenly creative, often strange record. Credit Jones, credit the incredible musicians he assembled, but you have to credit Jackson, too. He gives the performances of his life here, whether he’s being a high-pitched James Brown during the title track, a helium-voiced funk aesthete during ‘Wanna Be Startin’ Somethin’, bouncing off of Eddie Van Halen’s imaginative pyrothechnics during ‘Beat It’, or bringing out the considerable nuance in the indelible melody of ‘Human Nature’. It’s so well done, its power simply can’t be denied. The original nine-song album is what you need, but bonus remixes featuring contributions from the likes of will.i.am, Akon, Fergie and Kanye West, provide a nice touch. A DVD also compiles the infamous ‘Thriller’ short films, and a live performance of ‘Billie Jean’ from the Motown 25th anniversary show.”
